This outdoor pool was sculpted from handcrafted artificial concrete stone, shaped and coloured by hand to disappear into the property's existing boulders and forest. Rather than clearing the site and starting over, we built the waterscape into the natural landscape — every ledge and outcrop carved to read as the native rock around it.
At its heart is a true grotto, with a hot tub set on top of the rock formation so it overlooks the pool and the trees beyond. Water cascades from the spa down through the stone, and a hand-built bridge crosses the pool to the cavern below. Lit softly at dusk, the whole composition feels less like a pool and more like a hidden spring that was always there.
The difference between a pool with rocks around it and a true grotto is craftsmanship. We build the structure in architectural concrete, then sculpt, carve, and colour it by hand so every face reads as weathered, native stone — the kind that belongs to Vancouver Island's coastline and forests.
Because we excavate, form, and finish in-house, the rockwork, water engineering, and surrounding landscape are designed together from the start. Lighting, planting, and the path of the water are all considered so the finished grotto feels less built than discovered.
